An ancient Chinese warrior and philosopher once wrote: “Know
your enemy and know yourself, and you can fight a hundred battles
without disaster” The saying has been frequently shortened
to “know thy enemy.”
Regardless of the form the words take, they are applicable to
the fight against rice pests. You must first identify the organism
that’s causing problems, then figure out the best control
methods.
In the 2005 Pest Management Guide, we’ll provide you with
photographs and a brief description of the most common pests found
in rice fields.
We’ve included up-to-date weed response to herbicide charts
that show how each of the chemicals registered for use on rice
performs against specific weeds.
None is meant to be an all-inclusive reference for pest control
but rather a quick read.
If you have further questions, contact your local county agent
or Extension specialist. As with any pesticide, always read and
follow label instructions.
