Justin Chlapecka, who recently earned his doctoral degree from the University of Arkansas, was named state rice Extension Specialist and assistant research professor with the University of Missouri. He begins Aug. 1.
Chlapecka fills a hole left when Missouri rice Extension specialist Sam Atwell retired in May 2018.
While at the University of Arkansas, Chlapecka conducted research into nutrient management of row rice, also known as furrow-irrigated rice. State Extension rice agronomist Jarrod Hardke was his advisor.
Chlapecka also earned a master’s degree from the U of A.
In addition, he served as a Poinsett County, Arkansas, county agent after receiving his master’s degree and before returning to school for his doctorate.
“Excited and blessed for this new opportunity to serve the Missouri rice stakeholders and remain involved in the US rice industry!” Chlapecka tweeted.
