Applications can be made through July 26.
Corteva Agriscience today announced that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has granted a Section 18 Emergency Exemption label for Intrepid 2F® insecticide in Mississippi and Arkansas for control of fall armyworm in rice production. The product can be applied through July 26.
As rice in these two Midsouth states nears the panicle initiation and booting stages, rice consultants and Extension personnel are reporting heavy fall armyworm pressure. Neither pyrethroids nor Bts are showing consistent control of this pest that can cause rapid and extensive damage to rice.
“We are seeing increased fall armyworm populations on hill ledges and turnrows and we are prepared to make control applications when treatment is needed,” says independent crop consultant Tyler Hydrick, Ag Assistants, Jonesboro, Arkansas.
Intrepid 2F® insecticide provides fall armyworm control by ingestion of all larval instars, including those emerging from eggs. Intrepid 2F® insecticide does not disrupt beneficial insect predators, parasites, or bees. In more than 15 years of use, there has not been a single reported case of secondary pest outbreak caused by an Intrepid 2F® insecticide application.
Mississippi State University and the University of Arkansas requested the specific exemption for use of Intrepid 2F® insecticide on rice for control of fall armyworms.
