Rice farmers will see and hear firsthand about the latest developments in the Provisia Rice System and new Clearfield variety CLL17, available for planting next season, at the 2020 Horizon Ag Louisiana Field Day, July 8, near Kaplan, Louisiana.
The field day will be at Richard Farms at 17720 Louisiana Highway 699, Kaplan, Louisiana, and begins with a field tour at 5 p.m., according to a news release. Dinner will be at the Richard Farm shop located at 5632 Louisiana Highway 700.
“We’re excited about the news we’ll be sharing at this year’s field day,” Horizon Ag General Manager Dr. Tim Walker said in the release. “The Provisia Rice System is growing in popularity and acreage, and farmers are wanting to hear more about our current varieties PVL01 and PVL02, the Provisia System and new Provisia varieties in development.”
Also featured will be Horizon Ag variety CLL17, an early season, semi-dwarf, long-grain Clearfield rice currently in registered seed production. CLL17 is from the breeding program of Dr. Adam Famoso at the Louisiana State University AgCenter in Crowley. It has shown strong yield potential, excellent milling yield, very good grain quality and resistance to blast.
Other field day highlights include information on two varieties released in 2020 — CLL15, a long-grain rice, and CLM04, a medium-grain rice; as well as CLL16, a high-yielding, long-grain Clearfield rice variety available for planting in 2021.
“Horizon Ag looks forward to this field day every year, to provide the latest information to our customers regarding current varieties, what’s new for next season and what’s in development,” Walker said. “It’s also an opportunity to discuss managing and stewarding important technologies like the Provisia Rice System.”
